IT is one of the hottest shows on television. And, this week, two of its most controversial characters are set to visit Galashiels.

Merveille Lukeba and Kathryn Prescott from BAFTA award-winning E4 show Skins will perform a special DJ set at Move Music Venue in the town's Overhaugh Street tonight (Thursday).

The event has been organised to celebrate Freshers Week at Heriot Watt University. It follows exclusive performances by chart-toppers Booty Luv and the lads from S Club Seven in 2008 and 2009.

However, this year, the doors will also be thrown open to revellers across the region.

Merveille, who plays rebellious teenager Thomas Tomone, and Kathryn, who plays lesbian Emily Fitch in the teen drama, which follows a group of teenagers through two years of sixth form in Bristol, will also meet fans at a special meet and greet session after their set.

Kathryn, whose character shared an onscreen kiss with classmate Naomi in series four, was voted top fictional lesbian and bisexual character a poll conducted by American gay women's' media website.

Entry to the Skins gig at Move on Thursday, September 9, is priced £5 and doors open at 9pm.

Meanwhile, the following night, Move will host a Rockness showdown. Local DJs Steve Cass, Ryzo and Neil Rankin, the winner of the 2010 Rockness DJ Competition, who all played at the festival this year, will replay some of the hottest sounds of the summer.

The five hours of electronic house music begins on Friday at £10. Entry is priced £1.
