TWEEDBANK Fair gets underway this week.

Primary seven pupils Reece Smith and Alex Bell will lead this year's festivities, which begin with the Investiture Night on Tuesday, May 29, and culminates with the Fair day on Sunday, June 3.

They will be supported by their Attendants - Ciaran McLaren (Lad's First Attendant), Jordan Turnball (Lad's Second Attendant), Jayden McAllan (Lass's First Attendant) and Maisie Kidd (Lass's Second Attendant).

The full programme is as follows - TUESDAY, MAY 29: Investiture Evening in the Community Centre, starting at 7pm. It will be followed by a family BBQ and disco, which includes a licensed bar.

The Braw Lad and Braw Lass, from Galashiels, along with their Attendants will be presented to the Principal Party to exchange colours signifying the Investiture of this year's Principal Party.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 30: Fancy Dress Parade, which includes a visit from the Melrosian. Judging begins at the primary school at 6.30pm. The categories are as follows: Individual Pre - School, Individual Primary 1-3, Individual Primary 4-7, Individual Secondary, Individual Adults, Pairs (any age), Groups (any age), and Community Groups.

THURSDAY, MAY 31: Junior bingo, up to P4 age group, in the Community Centre from 6pm to 7.30pm. Come along and try for a full house - 30p a book or 50p for two books (books are 5 games). The tuck shop will also be open. It will be followed by the senior bingo for P5 to adults.

FRIDAY, JUNE 1: Adults Night, presenting Brenda Collins, International Comedy Vocalist, and Magnum Disco in the community centre from 7.30pm to late. Entry, priced £10, includes supper. Tickets are available from any of the Fair Committee at any of the Events during the week or call Karen on 01896 751900 or Donald on 07528835239.

SATURDAY, JUNE 2: Pavement artists at the school from 10am to 11am. Weather permitting.

Fruit and Flower Grand Parade - Melrose & District Pipes & Drums will lead the parade from Tweedbank Community Centre to the Primary School, followed by the Tweedbank Lad and Lass and their Attendants travelling in grand style in a Horse and Carriage and local Community Groups and individuals.

All children who wish to donate Fruit or Flowers mto a Galashiels Nursing Home

please meet at the Community Centre for 12.30pm where they will be given a ticket to receive £1 at the School following the Parade.

The Fete and Fun Day, which includes a primary seven penalty shoot out competition in memory of former pupil Chris Doyle, will follow in the school's playing field from 1pm.

Among the other attractions in the afternoon are a Miss Chucklebutty Show in the School hall and a car boot sale in aid of local community groups. For more information phone Karen on 01896 751900.

SUNDAY, JUNE 3: A grand charity adults quiz night in aid of Scottish HART (Heart At Risk Testing) will be held at Herges on the Loch. Registration from 8.30pm for start at 9pm. First prize is a vouchers for £50 to spend at Herges on the Loch. Entry is £10 for a team of four.
