IT was billed as one of the hottest parties of the year. And it just got hotter.

Arctic Monkeys tribute band, Desert Monkeys have been added to the line-up at Sound music festival in Galashiels this Bank Holiday weekend.

It follows the announcement that Coldplay tribute act Coldplayer have been forced to withdraw after lead singer Seth Reuben suffered a stroke.

Manchester-based Desert Monkeys have toured all over the country, supporting bands such as The Futureheads/Bluetones, and following acoustics sets from Chris Helme from the Seahorses not to mention the Cheeky Girls. They have an extensive back catalogue of hits from top albums like Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, Favourite Worst Nightmare, Humbug, and new album AM.

The indie rockers, who are known for their fantastic live performances, will be joined on stage at the Volunteer Hall in Galashiels on Saturday, May 3, by Kings of Leon and Simple Minds tribute acts, as well as local singer songwriter Madeleine Dow, who will perform an accoustic set.

Local promoter Steve Cass and Justin Wilson, of legendary club night No Strings Attached, will also perform an eclectic DJ set following their sold out set with Slam at the Dean earlier this month.

Sound, which was last staged in the town’s Scott Park on Braw Lads Day in 2011, is back in a new venue by public demand.

As Steve explained: “The feedback regarding The Sound Festival has always been positive, the reasons for moving the event to the May bank holiday and to an indoor venue was simply costs and the lack of funding available to hold an outdoor gig.

“Everyone who attended Sound knows how much effort goes into running the event, this will continue in The Volunteer Hall - the sound system to me is the most important thing when organising any gig. We will be using the same rig as the one at Scott Park in 2011, also using the latest in lighting to give everyone attending a proper show.

“The bands booked are currently touring the UK and Europe. All of the bands that are performing on the night compliment each other in a certain way, the guys are looking forward to the gig and promise to play all the hits. It promises to be a fantastic evening for all ages. Simple Minds are arguably Scotland’s most famous band and to hear Alive and Kicking along with Kings of Leon’s Sex on Fire and Arctic Monkeys I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor, I think the atmosphere is going to be electric.” Tickets for the show, priced £15, are on sale now at Guess What? and Music Station in Galashiels, The Station Hotel in Melrose, and online at www.borderevents.com The event starts at 4pm and will continue through until 12.30am.
