ONCE again, bad weather hit Scottish Borders Hill Walking Club’s New Year’s Day walk, which members decided to make a full-day walk…some hope with the wind and rain!

Only four people turned up for the A walk and two on the B walk. Leaving the rugby club car park in Selkirk, we set off on the usual track up the Corbie Linn. The leader had decided, in view of the wind and rain, to cancel the chosen route and go straight up to the Three Brethren. This meant a wild, wet open journey on the way up, but with the chance of some shelter on part of the return trip. It was a very wet and windy walk to the top with lots of gusts.

There was no time to linger, and we were soon heading down on the path towards the Long Philip Burn, a slightly different route from usual, but sheltered, and we were soon at Tibbie Tamson’s grave. From here, we made our way through the wooded area to follow the route back to the start point, arriving at 1pm. Our two B walkers had come up the Corbie Linn as far as the top pond and then to Tibbie Tamson’s grave and back through the woods. E.S.H.
