And, with the support of the Student Theatre at Glasgow (STaG), he is staging a special preview of the show at the Village Hall, St Boswells, on Tuesday, July 28, at 7.30pm before it starts its two week run at the Fringe on August 7.

Angus, who has just secured a place at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) after graduating from Glasgow University with an MA in English Literature, said: “The show was partly inspired by the goings on of small Border villages and I thought a St Boswells showing would be both a great opportunity for the cast to come and spend some time getting a feel for the area.

“And, having spent years in Borders Youth Theatre and performing in the Earlston High School shows, a really nice way of bringing some of the stuff I’ve learned back into the Borders.” In the show, James Orphan musters his courage and ventures to the windswept and isolated village of Styx. His mission is to win back ex-girlfriend Eilidh and prove that he isn’t nearly as wet as everybody thinks.

But the weather is foul and he must first negotiate a fearful prophecy, cantankerous villagers and the malevolent plotting of disturbed local postman Eric Spinge.

Can James accomplish his mission before tragedy strikes? Will the egg of fate be overcooked?

Angus said: “Co-directed by myself and Jenny Gilvear, the show, which is called 'Styx’, won the 'New Works Festival 2015’ award at Webster’s Theatre in Glasgow after being judged by theatre practitioners, actors and directors from Glasgow’s professional theatre scene. Since then we’ve been working on it to make it Fringe-ready and the St Boswells performance will be an excellent opportunity to get into the swing of things.

“After the show (which runs at an hour long), we’ll serve tea and coffee and cakes, have an informal Q&A with a few musical interludes from our award winning MD, Tony McHugh, and possibly a raffle!” Tickets for the St Boswells performance are priced £5 of £4 for concessions and are available online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/stag or on the door on the night.
