SOUND of Music star Connie Fisher has revealed she is planning to visit the Borders.

The television celebrity, who rose to fame as the winner of BBC talent show How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?, is currently playing the headline role at the Playhouse Theatre in Edinburgh.

She wowed audiences with her opening night performance in the capital at the start of a five-week run on Tuesday.

But the 26-year-old, who made the role her own in London's West End, revealed she plans to take time out from her busy UK tour to visit family in the Borders.

Speaking to the Border Telegraph , Connie Fisher said: "I'm so excited to get out and about to explore this part of Scotland.

"I haven't been up here since I was 15 years old when I was in a show with the National Youth Music Theatre - but it's gorgeous.

"My aunt and uncle live in the Borders. They are coming up to see the show and I'm going to pop down to see them."

The acclaimed production, which tells the story of the Von Trapp family and includes some of the most memorable songs ever performed on stage such as My Favorite Things, Do-Re-Mi, and the title track,The Sound of Music, runs at the Playhouse until February 20.

However, it could be the last time Connie Fisher plays the starring role as she is due to get married in September.

She said: "I've been performing the role for more than two years now and the reaction everywhere we go has been amazing.

"If I don't have a break now I might never get married." But she added: "I hope to still be able to play Maria when I'm 86!"
