THE Border Telegraph is turning back the pages with our weekly feature in association with the Old Gala Club.

Every week we will print a photograph of bygone Galashiels from the club's archives, as well as those handed in by our readers.

This week's picture shows the horse and cart used by local ice-cream van operator Adam Kelly when he was selling eggs round the doors aged 15 - back in 1937.

Last week we reported Adam, who has been operating Adam's Ices for the past 45 years, is believed to be the oldest ice-cream van operator in the UK - but he revealed he has no plans to retire yet.

This week Adam celebrated his 59th wedding anniversary. Here, he is also pictured with his wife Betty. We wish them all the best.

Readers are invited to share with us their own photographs and memories of bygone Galashiels. They can be sent by emailing: amcgilvray@bordertelegraph.com

Alternatively, pop in to our newsroom above the outdoor clothing shop at 113 Channel Street, Galashiels, TD1 1BN.
