YOUNGSTERS across the Borders are being given the opportunity to take part in a broad range of arts activities over the summer holidays, thanks to a new Youth Arts Programme called "Big Summer Holidays - Big Summer Arts".

Designed by Scottish Borders Council"s (SBC) Arts Development Team, the programme offers young people the opportunity to take part in various activities such as music, song, animation, story-telling, dance and drama.

Councillor Graham Garvie, Executive Member for Culture, Sport and Community Learning, said: 'Building on the success of the 2008 Summer Arts Programme, this year we have expanded the number of activities on offer across the Borders and which are just that little bit different.

"For example we are offering youngsters a chance to learn how to play the fiddle, sing in a harmony group, create willow sculptures and have a go at urban street dance to name but a few.'

Events start on Monday, July 6 and run until August 15. Full details of the programme and where to book for the various activities can be downloaded from www.scotborders.gov.uk/culturalcoordinator. Booking is essential for all activities.

For more information or to request a booking form, please call the Arts Development Team, Scottish Borders Council on 01750 724901, between 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday.
