READING newspapers is good for your health, according to the latest research.

And now it has never been easier to keep up to date with us online.

Last year, the Border Telegraph officially launched its own page on social-networking site Facebook to give readers an alternative look at what's going on in the Borders, as well as keeping you up to date with any breaking news stories.

Visitors who "Like" the page can tag their "Friends" in our photographs, watch our favourite videos, post their comments on the latest news stories, or upload their own.

And this week we welcomed our 1000th "Friend".

Welcoming the milestone this week, Border Telegraph Acting Editor David Knox said: "Facebook provides us with another direct link between our reporters and readers - and we 'Like' that so many of them 'Like' it.

"We try to keep the content of our newspaper and websites separate and our Facebook page allows us to publish some of the news - and videos - which we are not able to print in the paper.

"It also gives us the opportunity to flag up any major stories or competitions and, more importantly, gives readers a chance to let us know their views."

Find us on Facebook and share our page with your "Friends".
