Alastair was my guidance teacher at Berwickshire High School. He was also a friend of the family and kept an interest in my progress long after I left in 1992. At my 21st birthday in 1995, he gave the speech in my honour and amongst his opening words were "it is with a great deal of pride" - these same words are exactly how I will remember Alastair. He was, quite simply, the best.

Rest easy, Mr C, and thanks for everything.

FP Berwickshire High School, 1987-1992.

When I was 13 Mr. Christie wrote in my report card "fools rush in where angels fear to tread" - I'm now 36 and I'm incredibly grateful Christie gave me that advice then. He was certainly an angel, and certainly no fool. Mr. Christie taught me a lot about myself and about life, he loved me for sure. I'll never forget him. Thank you, Alastair.

Alastair, in my time at BHS, was one of the most effective and caring teachers I have ever worked with. He was just as inspirational with staff. A very fine man with high standards in teaching, guidance and sport. It was a privilage working with him.

I knew Alastair as both a friend and a colleague. He was a wonderful Depute Head at Berwickshire High School whose pupils he served so well for many, many years. Without his support, my job as Head Teacher would have been much more difficult - he was a key player in both creating and maintaining the school's caring ethos and played a special role in the lives of generations of Berwickshire chidren. Alastair was also my friend and together we enjoyed climbing Munros and watching Rangers in equal measure. I shall miss him enormously. My thoughts are with Mary and Sara.
