BOND never looked sharper, the DB10 never looked cooler and Blofeld has never been so menacing.

Audiences for the Eastgate’s Film Sunday last week enjoyed Spectre on a new screen – the latest development in the venue’s commitment to delivering a full digital cinema experience across the more than 100 screened presentations each year.

Announcing the new digital capacity, Sir David Younger, Chair of the Board of the Eastgate Theatre thanked the sponsors Mrs Percy-Robb, Lady Elizabeth and David Benson, Mr & Mrs David Reid and the Friends of the Eastgate who made the purchase possible.

He also commended the team that handled the installation including Robert Barr, his two colleagues and the Eastgate’s Technical Manager Richard Hogg who battled through the wettest November weather to hoist the huge 7metre wide screen into position in the theatre.

Caroline Adam, General Manager of the Eastgate Theatre said: “The visual quality of all sorts of films – from documentaries to features to screenings of stage productions – improves year on year so I am delighted that this new screen gives our audiences the opportunity to fully appreciate these stunning images, whether it’s Maggie Smith in full flight or Danny MacAskill balanced on the Cuillin Ridgeline.”

Spectre was one of the last in this season’s series of blockbuster films shown at the Eastgate on Film Sundays. The next Film Sunday features the children’s film The Good Dinosaur at 2.30pm on Sunday, December 20 followed by Suffragette at 4.30pm and 7.30pm.

Next season, from 3 January, the Eastgate will show three different films each Sunday. The children’s film at 2.30pm will be followed by two different features. On Sunday, January 3 these are The Lady in the Van and Brooklyn.

Sunday feature films are just one of the cinema series shown each season. The others include live and encore screenings from the Royal Opera, Royal Ballet and National Theatre bringing the finest, opera, ballet and theatre performances from London directly to the Peebles stage. Once a year the Eastgate stages a film festival of the outdoors – extraordinary films and personal presentations capturing the excitement of environmental, sports and wildlife activity locally and internationally. Local schools and community organisations such as Tweedlove and Tweedgreen regularly hire the facility to show one off films and Tweeddale Film Society shows a regular season of film classics.
