BOWHILL is preparing to put on a triple bill of heritage events.

The penultimate instalment of Bowhill’s heritage talks series is set to take place on Friday (September 1).

And also on Friday a torchlight walk, as part of the Borders Heritage Festival, will take place in the evening.

Next Wednesday Bowhill’s heritage bonanza will conclude with the Sounding Out the Past concert featuring the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

Helen Currie, house and events manager at Bowhill House and Country Estate, said: “Our heritage talk series was organised to mark VisitScotland’s Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology and has been a fantastic way to explore the heritage of Bowhill House.

“This talk is set to provide fascinating insights into the architecture of the building.

“We are also delighted to host two fabulous Scottish Borders Heritage Festival events which provide two every different experiences.”

From a family history of rebellion to noble Dukes and the treasures held in the Buccleuch Houses, the heritage talks series at Bowhill House has taken visitors on a fascinating journey through time.

Titled Beautiful Bowhill, and led by House Guide Walter Bateman from 2pm, Friday's talk takes visitors on a journey around the architectural heritage of Bowhill House.

The tour will outline developments and changes to the House in the late Georgian and Victorian periods and also includes a delicious cream tea.

Later on Friday, the Torchlight Walk to Newark Castle begins in the Sunken Garden at Bowhill House at 7.30pm.

Guests will be taken on a short walk to Newark Castle with lots of surprises, stories and performances along the way.

Next Wednesday's Sounding Out the Past is a new music commission for the Borders Heritage Festival inspired by the theme ‘Borders - Where People Place and Myth Meet’.

The performance, taking place from 7.30pm, will see the Scottish Chamber Orchestra ensemble take to the stage in the intimate surroundings of Bowhill House.

Tickets for Beautiful Bowhill cost £6 per person, with tickets for the Torchlight Walk to Newark Castle priced at £9 for adults and £6 for children.

The Sounding Out the Past tickets are £25 per person.

Booking is essential for the trio of events and can be made by calling 01750 22204 or emailing info@bowhillhouse.co.uk.
