LOCAL MP Michael Moore congratulated Bill and Rosamund de la Hey from Mainstreet Trading as they were announced as runners up at the Best Small Shops Competition reception in Parliament.

Out of 300 shops which entered the competition and the 20 shortlisted, Mainstreet was one of two shops who came runners up in the competition.

The competition was run by the All Party Parliamentary Small Shops Group and the winner and two runners up were selected based on criteria including innovation within the business, engagement with the community and entrepreneurial activities.

Commenting, Mr Moore said: “I was pleased to attend the reception today and congratulate Rosamund and Bill on coming runners up in the competition.

“Mainstreet Trading is a fine example of a small, local shop which engages with the community and provides a fantastic place for people to meet, eat and shop in the Borders. Their success in the competition is thoroughly deserved!

“Small shops play an important role in our local economy and it was great to see the Borders represented in the competition today and doing so well.”
