GLENDINNING Primary School won the first ever playground chess tournament in the Borders this week.
The event was hosted at Balmoral Primary School in Galashiels on Monday.
Local primary schools met for a round robin of games played on giant chess sets outdoors.
Unlike normal chess games played between individuals, this competition was contested by school teams.
And Glendinning, who have their own outdoor playing set, finished the day unbeaten.
Organiser Tom Lawson said: “It makes them think and it’s a team competition so they had to co-operate with each other.
“That’s the first time they have done it so room for improvement.
“Balmoral and Glendinning have got their own outdoor playing set donated to them so we hope that other schools will see this and get their own outdoor set.”
