In celebration of the 100th Birthday (postumesley) of Robert Mercer born in Galashiels on the 10th January 1922 Son of Robert Mercer and Maria Mercer both late of Galashiels. Robert's Father's family were Master-Builders in Galashiels in the early 1900's and also involved in building and renovating railway carriages in Galashiels Robert Mercer joined the RAF as a trainee engineer at the age of 17 (1939) working on the Spitfire and other aeroplanes in UK and overseas. Following the end of the war Robert spent time with Scottish Omnibuses before joining the Police Force (latterly Lothian & Borders) until his retirement in 1969 and his death in 1990 Robert continues to be sadly missed by his Son Alan, Daughter Kathleen, Son's Ian and Colin.
