POLICE in the Scottish Borders are issuing a warning to licensed premises in the area following another attempted fraud being reported.

In the most recent incident in the Berwickshire area, a publican was conned into parting with a substantial amount of money which was sent via taxi to an address in Edinburgh for dropping off.

It is believed a male involved in this scam would have uplifted the money at a later time. On this occasion due to a member of the public reporting a similar incident, the taxi was intercepted and the money retrieved.

Chief Inspector Kenny Simpson of Police Scotland Safer Communities department said: "From time to time this type of scam or fraud occurs across the country and it would seem that the Scottish Borders is being targeted once again.

“We would ask that people be vigilant and if they are contacted by someone they do not know, or cannot identify as genuine, who requests money to be sent anywhere by taxi that they contact police as soon as possible.” Anyone with any concerns about suspicious activity should contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
