A HOMELESS man who struck another man over the head with a glass object to his injury in Scott Park, Galashiels, had sentence deferred at Selkirk Sheriff Court until December 9 for background reports to be considered.
John Grierson, formerly of Beech Avenue, Galashiels, pleaded guilty on indictment to the attack on Sean Boswell on July 19.
Tessa Bradley, prosecuting, described how the victim and three others including 26-year-old Grierson had met up at a bench in the park to drink alcohol.
She said: “One of the wintesses said that Boswell started to show off. The way he put it was that he was trying to be a bit of a daftie and tried to show them how to punch “Grierson took exception to this and struck him on the face with an unknown object.
“The victim asked what was that for and Grierson replied because you were being a d*******d.” One of the group saw Boswell was bleeding and called for an ambulance.
Doctors found small pieces of glass and had to remove them from the cuts on his face.
Sheriff William Taylor said Greirson had suffered several tragic events and said: “Life has not been good for you.” He deferred sentence to December 9 for a Criminal Justice Social Work Report and said he hoped a solution could be found to his problem of drinking.
