TIME stood still in Galashiels after the clock on the town’s war memorial - regarded as one of the best in Britain - stopped working.
Scottish Borders Council blamed tripped electrical circuits for the fault which affected the Town Clock in Paton Street on two occasions last week, for around 12 hours each time.
A spokesperson for the local authority said: “The issue has now been resolved.” It is the latest in a series of calamity’s to hit the clock.
At New Year, revellers endured a hushed-up Hogmanay in Galashiels after it failed to chime. And, last summer, the town’s Burns Club were let down in June as they waited for the eight o’clock chimes of Braw Braw Lads to conclude their centenary celebrations - only to be met with silence.
Galashiels Community Council have asked Scottish Borders Council whether the clock has been silenced following a noise complaint from a neighbour which prompted a local outcry.
