A GROUP of talented local musicians will perform at the first ever Ukulele Festival of Scotland next month.

The Earlston Ukulele Club have been asked to play on Saturday May 7 at the maiden event In Dumfries, which runs from May 6-9.

Mark Smith, club member said: “When we heard about the festival we decided to get as many club members together as possible to go and support the event as there are some world class ukulele players performing, and its right on our door step.

“One of our members noticed on the web page for the festival that there was an invitation for clubs and bands to send in a video to the Ukulele Festival of Scotland organisers and the best three would be offered an opportunity to play at a newcomers slot during the festival. The club hastily put together a small group The Earls of Uke and recorded a video of an original song by Peter Fry, club member, entitled 'Funny Clothes' and sent it away.  He received an email a few weeks later saying that we had been chosen to play on the Saturday.

Jenny Miller, has been a regular at ukulele festivals for a number of years. She said: “The standard of musicianship is always pretty high so I still can't quite believe that we are going to be playing alongside so many international ukulele superstars.”

The Earlston Ukulele Club has been together since 2014 and meets every second Thursday in The Black Bull in Earlston from 7:00.
