MELROSE is gearing up for another busy summer with the official appointment of the town's Melrosian and the Festival Queen and her Court, this Friday.

As the weeks roll in, town Principals are being announced across the Borders, and excitment is bubbling throughout Melrose as it's almost time for their festivities to commence.

This year's Melrosian Elect, 19-year-old Struan Hutchison was revealed back in January but his formal appointment ceremony will be at 7.30pm, Friday May 6, in the square.

The local primary 7s are also eagerly awaiting the announcement of the Queen and her Court at the Corn Exchange.

All are welcome to attend and stay for wine and nibbles in the Corn Exchange afterwards.

Festival Chairman Michael Crawford said: "Whether you are a participant or spectator, I look forward to meeting you during this year’s Festival events, which commence with the formal Appointment of our 2016 Melrosian, Struan Hutchison, and the announcement of the Festival Queen and her Court on Friday 6 May.

"Here’s tae Melrose, gem o’ Scotland."

This year's Melrose Festival runs from Sunday, June 19 to Saturday, June 25 with, as always, a week-long calender of fun-filled community events.
