PET owners across the Borders have just days left to submit their stories of miracle survival into the national Pet Survivor Awards.

Run by the pet charity PDSA - they are searching for the most amazing ‘tails’ of pets who’ve either dodged disaster or beaten the odds.

The competition, which celebrates death-defying dogs, fortunate felines, and plucky pets of all kinds, will only accept the most hair-raising stories.

The lucky winner will receive the coveted title of PDSA Pet Survivor 2016, plus a year's PDSA Pet Insurance*.

PDSA Vet, Rebecca Ashman, said: “Every week, dedicated vet teams save lives and help get our beloved pets back on their paws after serious injury and illness.

"Our annual Pet Survivor Awards, which are run in association with PDSA Petsurance, recognise those extraordinary cases which capture a pet’s fighting spirit, together with the owner’s love and devotion, and the skill of the vet teams who save pets’ lives every day.”

The finalists for last year included a dog shot through the head with a crossbow and a cat who endured horrific acid burns, but both lived to tell the 'tail'.

Anyone from owners, rescue centre and vet practices can enter the competition online.

The PDSA Pet Survivor Awards are open to any pet who has been treated in the UK by a vet for a life-threatening illness or injury between August 1, 2015 to August 1, 2016.

A small group of miracle pets will be shortlisted by a judging panel, followed by a public vote.

The winner will be announced at the end of the year.

Entries for the 2016 competition need to be received by midnight on Sunday 25 September 2016.

(*Prize can cover up to £8,000 of vets fees* that can be paid directly to your vet (subject to availability), plus every policy contributes to the charity’s vital work helping pets in need.)
