A 60-year-old man who assaulted his partner in her Melrose home has confirmed the relationship is over and he is flying back to Turkey this week.
Retired engineer Steven Davies appeared from custody at Jedburgh Sheriff Court and pleaded guilty to seizing Gail Burnett by the neck at her home in Buccleuch Street during an argument.
He was also found in possession of £1 worth of cannabis.
Defence lawyer Robert More said his client normally resided in Turkey but came over to Britain four times a year to visit his partner.
However, Davies had confirmed the relationship was over and he was due to fly back to Turkey on Wednesday and until then will stay in Edinburgh on his returns.
Davies was fined £200 for the assault and £100 for the cannabis offence with both fines paid instantly before his flight home.
