A SELKIRK man who admitted thefts from two properties in the town has been jailed for 180 days at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

Gary Stewart of Market Place was also ordered to serve 90 days in prison as part of an unexpired previous sentence before the new jail term gets underway.

The 26-year-old appeared from custody and pleaded guilty to the thefts of car keys from properties in Ettrick Terrace and Bemersyde Crescent in Selkirk on Saturday evening.

Chief Inspector Andy McLean of Police Scotland said: "Thanks to the vigilance of the victims, they were able to make prompt calls to police, which resulted in a male being arrested on the same day as the offences.

"We will always investigate reports of crimes with robustly to bring those responsible to justice."
