A WOMAN who collapsed and died during an adventure race around Innerleithen has been named as nurse Heather Foggo.
The 48-year-old from Morpeth in Northumberland took unwell during a water crossing around one mile into the Mighty Deerstalker Race.
An off duty paramedic and official medical staff from the race attempted to revive the runner before an ambulance arrived.
Further CPR was carried out by ambulance staff but the married mother of two was pronounced dead during the journey to Borders General Hospital.
Police were also in attendance as CPR was administered.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "We responded to a report of a woman having taken unwell during a sporting event near to Traquair House, Innerleithen at 6.15pm.
"The 48-year-old was treated by the Scottish Ambulance Service and was taken to Borders General Hospital. However, she passed away while en route.
"Inquiries are continuing, however there appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding this death and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
Close to 2,000 athletes took part in the race which starts and finishes on Traquair Estate.
A spokesman for the Mighty Deerstalker said: "Our heartfelt thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the deceased.”
