BORDERS MP John Lamont has held his first ‘doorstop surgery’ in Galashiels.

The Conservative member for Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk knocked on more than 150 doors across six streets in the town last month, to speak to residents about issues such as local roads, broadband and Brexit.

After holding his 1,000th surgery earlier this year, Mr Lamont pledged to be the country’s most accessible politician. And he plans to hold more door-to-door meetings with constituents across eight Borders locations in a mini-tour on Friday, November 24.

Speaking after his tour, Mr Lamont told us: “It was great to be able to speak to so many residents in Galashiels and hear about their thoughts and concerns. As a result of my first door-to-door advice surgery, I’ll be taking forward a number of new cases on behalf of constituents.

"Despite now representing the Borders at Westminster instead of Holyrood, I want to be in the constituency as much as possible and will continue to make myself as accessible as possible to voters.

"My regular ‘static’ advice surgeries will continue as normal and I’ll be holding more of these in November. This door-to-door format was really worthwhile and I’ll certainly be doing it again as well.

"If you’d like me and my team to pay your street a visit, please get in touch.”
