A PEEBLES primary is one step closer to creating an outdoor classroom, thanks to a charitable donation.

On Monday, Halyrude was presented with a cheque for £4,000 from Tesco’s Bags of Help Fund.

The scheme was set up by the supermarket giant to raise money for local community projects, by giving away the money it makes on carrier bag sales.

Teachers and pupils gathered outside the school this week for the cheque presentation.

Headteacher Leigh Brunton told the Peeblesshire News: “We are delighted to accept a cheque for £4000 from Tesco today through their Tesco Bags of Help Fund.

"We would like to thank Mrs Whelan and our school playground committee for all their hard work in promoting this scheme to the local community and also everyone who voted for Halyrude.

“We look forward to using the money towards an outdoor classroom for everyone to enjoy.”
