THE winner of this year’s Pet Idol competition can finally be revealed after the final votes were counted over the weekend.
Following a record-breaking amount of entries, readers of the Border Telegraph and Peeblesshire News have been voting in their droves for their favourite furry friend over the past few months.
And we’re delighted to announce that Sabre the cat has been crowned this year’s purr-fect pet.
The seven-year-old feline belongs to Jemma Hume and lives with her in Galashiels.
A delighted Jemma, 34, said: “This is fantastic news and I am over the moon.
“He is my furry best friend and I’m glad he has won. If only he knew.
“I got Sabre from the Arthursheil Rescue Centre in St Boswells when he was just a kitten.
“It happened to be by chance really, as he was already spoken for but I left my details in case.
“The people who wanted him changed their minds so I got the pleasure of taking him home.
“He is a domestic cat who loves snuggles.”
This year saw 260 entries submitted for our 2017 competition, with thousands of votes cast by our readers over the past couple of months.
Sabre’s proud owner will receive a £300 cash prize as well as the coveted title.
