A BORDERS bus company is hoping drivers will ditch their cars this month and take advantage of cut-price day tickets.

From the start of this week until Sunday, November 26, Borders Buses will offer a day of travel for just £5.

And passengers won't be restricted to the region with the Borderless Day ticket offering unlimited travel across Lothian, North Northumberland and Cumbria as well as the Borders.

Lee Young, operations manager at Borders Buses in Galashiels, told us: “From getting young people to school and college, taking people to work, shopping, medical appointments to visiting friends the bus provides an important link in our communities, town and cities.

“The Borderless Day ticket represents real value for money and we hope this alongside the many benefits of bus use will increase the number of people opting to use the bus instead of cars.”

To further boost bus travel in the area the company has teamed up with Scottish Borders Council to encourage visitors, residents and local authority staff to ditch their cars and try the bus.

Councillor Gordon Edgar, Executive spokesman for roads and infrastructure, said: “The council is pleased to be supporting this excellent initiative to encourage people to use the bus.

“There has already been very good feedback to the Borderless Ticket offer via social media and I would encourage people who do not normally use the bus to jump on a service during this campaign, whether for work purposes or a day out.

“It is not only value for money to use the bus, but could significantly reduce the number of vehicles on the roads, help to reduce pollution and improve public health.

“Borders Buses have shown a real commitment to improving the service in the region, carrying out consultation events in order to listen the public, and this is another exciting idea which I hope will see more people using local bus services.”

The Borderless Day ticket can be bought on bus during the promotion period.
