POLICE are investigating a second drugs-related death in Galashiels in the space of four days.

The body of an elderly man was discovered at an address in Kirkbrae on Monday evening after concerns had been expressed for his well-being.

The man, who was in his 60s, has not been named by authorities.

It is believed his body had been lying undiscovered for a lengthy period.

But it is understood there is no connection with the death of 33-year-old David Connolly who was found within a property in Winston Place, Galashiels, on Friday.

There is also no link with the incidents at the weekend when several drug-users were admitted to Borders General Hospital suffering from symptoms of taking Fentanyl.

Police and NHS Borders warned about the risks of a deadly batch of heroin - thought to have been laced with the potent painkiller - being in circulation in the Galashiels area.

Commenting on the latest death a Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police were called to an address in Kirk Brae in Galashiels on Monday evening after concerns were raised for the welfare of a man within.

"Officers gained entry and found a man in his 60s deceased. The death is being treated as unexplained but is not being treated as suspicious at this time and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
