ONE of Galashiels’ oldest salons closed its doors for the final time, just before Christmas.
Border Beauty Clinic in Gala Park offered up its last treatments to loyal customers, who have been visiting for the past 40 years.
The shop was owned by Frances Falconer, but has been managed by Susan Donoghue since Frances’ retirement five years ago.
Frances told us: “I have had the business for more than 40 years and I think we could possibly have been the first beauty salon in Galashiels.
“When we first opened, it was in a premises on Roxburgh Street, but we decided to move up to Gala Park.
“Susan has been running the shop since I retired, but now she is also retiring so we have decided to close.
“I have enjoyed having the shop, it has been really good. There was a time where we had four people working and we benefitted when Borders College introduced their beauty courses. We took on quite a few girls from there.
“Now I’m planning on playing a little bit more golf.”
