IT was the end of an era at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on Friday when sheriff clerk David Newton finally called it a day after 42 years service.
He first started out with the Scottish Courts Service in 1976 at Edinburgh Sheriff Court but for the past decade has been based at the sheriff courts in the Borders.
There was a large turn-out of the local legal fraternity to say a final farewell including sheriffs Peter Paterson, Kevin Drummond and Derrick McIntyre.
Sheriff Paterson said: "It was always re-assuring having David in court and being able to rely on his vast experience.
"We all wish him as long and happy retirement."
David is pictured here receiving retirement gifts with work colleagues and family members.
