THE secret will be out of the bag next Friday – when Galashiels’ Braw Lad and Lass for 2018 will be unveiled to the public.

As in previous years, the big reveal will take place on the balcony of the Burgh Chambers at 8pm.

This summer’s festivities will be led by the new team of Bill White, who has replaced David Romanis as president of the gathering, and Jodie Millar who was appointed chairman.

And the excitement is already building around the town.

Jodie told us: “As declaration night approaches, I am so excited for the start of the 2018 Braw Lads’ Gathering where the secret will be out and the townspeople of Galashiels will get their first glimpse of our Braw Lad, Braw Lass and Attendants.

“Whilst there have been many changes to the office bearers this year, I can assure everyone that the 2018 Gathering is shaping up nicely.

"The Executive Council is full for the first time in many years and we aim to make it a year to remember for everyone with some exciting changes planned.”

Next Friday is sure to be a fun-filled evening, with packed programme in store.

After the declaration is made at 8pm at Burgh Chambers, the Braw Lad, Lass and Attendants will join the schoolchildren under the balcony.

The Braw Lass will be presented with a floral arrangement from a pupil representing Langlee Primary School.

The Principals will then dance the Dashing White Sergeant with the youngsters from all the Galashiels primary schools.

And the adults will have the chance to meet the new Braw Lad, Lass and Attendants, after the announcement is made, in the Volunteer Hall.

This event in the hall is open to everyone over the age of 18, tickets can be purchased at the door and entertainment will be provided by George Inglis and Rocking Horse.
