A GALASHIELS man has been remanded in custody at Selkirk Sheriff Court after being accused of theft by housebreaking and stealing two vehicles.
Twenty-six year-old Garry Stewart is charged with a total of five offences following incidents in the Magdala Terrace area of Galashiels during the early hours of Wednesday morning.
In addition to the vehicle thefts and the housebreaking, he faces two theft charges.
Stewart made no plea during a private hearing and the case was continued for further examination.
Bail was refused and he was remanded in custody and is due to appear in court again within eight days.
Inspector Bryan Burns from Galashiels Police Station said: “I would like to extend my thanks to members of the local community who assisted officers with our investigations to ensure the swift recovery of the property.
“We will not tolerate these types of crimes and will continue to treat them with the utmost seriousness and are committed to bringing those responsible before the courts.”
