GALASHIELS’ annual weekend walking festival has been hailed a great success by organisers.

A total of nine walks took place – ranging from 2.5 miles to 13 miles.

Tracey Alder said: “The festival went very well and we were up on numbers from last year.

“We saw many faces we knew and many we didn’t know which was great.

“We even had people coming from as far away as Denmark which is good for the area.”

On Friday, April 27, the evening the walk ended at Quins restaurant where a quiz night was held.

And the money taken on the night is usually given to a local charity.

This time it was donated to Works+, an employability charity which works with young people in Galashiels.

Eileen Frame, who is on the town’s community council, said: “It really is great to hear people talk about how good the Borders is when it comes to the walking.

“Even people who have come from places such as the Lake District have told me how good the walks are here.”
