FOR a certain generation it was the seminal soundtrack and movie of their troubled youth.

And now, some 38 years later, Breaking Glass is ready yet again burst onto the big screen in Galashiels - only this time with star Hazel O'Connor playing live for viewers.

Both the Breaking Glass album and movie were post-punk sensations following their release in 1980.

Brian Gibson's iconic film, which also starred Phil Daniels, charted the rise and fall of Kate, the darling of the emerging new wave music scene.

The storyline almost mirrored leading lady O'Connor's own sudden rise to fame and chart success.

Breaking Glass was not only a box office hit at cinemas in the early 1980s but the soundtrack reached number five with the singles Eighth Day and Will You both entering the top ten.

Now a digitally remastered version of Breaking Glass will be screened at the MacArts on Friday, November 23.

And following a brief question-and-answer session after the credits, O'Connor will play many of the songs from the soundtrack live on stage.

A spokesman for MacArts told us: "This is a very special evening with award-winning singer-songwriter Hazel O’Connor, featuring a rare screening of the digitally re-mastered uncut version of the film followed by an intimate Q&A and live performance of some of the film’s best-loved songs."

The screening of Breaking Glass starts at 7pm with doors open from 6.30pm.
