ST BOSWELLS Live will be hosting one of the contemporary folk-world's best new bands later this month.

Featuring Dónal Rogers, Eliza Marshall, Ellie Turner and Joe Danks, Ranagri are packed with the sound of flutes, Irish whistles, electric harp, bodhran, guitars, piano, bouzouki and voices.

Dónal Rogers’ vocals are forcible and fresh with influences from folk to world music and a powerful message to boot.

The band exude good times and happiness but are not afraid to tackle serious issues like homelessness and the current trend for fake news which surrounds us.

Promoter Keith Farnish said: “As a huge fan of Jethro Tull and Fairport Convention, I’m excited we are able to host a group that fits easily into the classic British folk-rock vein, while pushing the envelope with instruments and words that suggest a fresh global outlook on the role of music in the world.”

Ranagri bring catchy hooks and sublime instrumental blends to traditional tunes as well as their original songs, characterised by Donal’s ability to spin a great yarn.

Robust bass lines flow from Ellie Turner’s fingers at the electric harp, the perfect partner to classically trained Eliza Marshall’s finessed flutes and whistles.

Joe Danks’ bodhran has a boisterous energy that takes the drum kit role and pays it forward with irresistable cross-rhythms and the addition of stomp box and African udu.

Ranagri are set for their busiest year yet with tours in the UK and Germany and the much anticipated release of their fourth studio album (on Grammy Award winning label Stockfisch Records) in Autumn 2018.

On their live performance, David Pratt of FATEA Magazine said: “When the faces of one hundred plus people leaving a concert are, without exception, beaming from ear to ear, with many eagerly clutching their newly purchased and signed CDs, it stands a good chance that the evening has been a successful one.”

For the duration of this major tour, they will be ably supported by the superb singer-songwriter and guitarist Steve Dalgleish.

Ranagri play St Boswells Live on Saturday, August 25 from 7.30pm.

Tickets are available priced just £8 (£5 concessions) from www.stboswellslive.com and St Boswells Old Post Office.

They will also be available on the door for £10.
