THOUSANDS of people flocked to the 2018 Peebles Agricultural Show at the weekend, with organisers hailing it a record crowd.

Stallholders, competition entrants and visitors alike were treated to great weather at the showground.

The event is now in its sixth year on the field at Nether Horsburgh in Cardrona, after relocating from Peebles’ Hay Lodge Park where it was held for a number of years.

A free shuttle bus service departing from Peebles and Innerleithen was also in operation to help bring even more visitors to the field.

Bill Brown, president of the Peebles Show told us: “The weather was fabulous – we had the best day we have had since we moved to Nether Horsburgh.

“I think we had a record crowd for the new venue, and I would estimate that around 4,000-5,000 people attended. All aspects of the show went very well. Big hits were the sheep dog demonstrations by Ricky Hutchison, the miniature donkeys, heavy horse turnout, and of course, loads of dogs at the dog show.

“There were some very good livestock and horse entries with over 200 competitors. The cookery demonstrations, sponsored by Quality Meat Scotland, and the butchery demonstration by Mike and Louise Forsyth of Forsyths were very popular.

“We had a great food hall, craft tent and WI tent and a huge entry of shepherds’ sticks.

“I was delighted how the day went and can’t thank all the committee and volunteers who help enough, without them the show just couldn’t happen.

“It was great to have so many of the general public at the show and feedback from them has been great, it was a great showcase for Scottish and particularly Borders agriculture.

“We are very grateful to all our sponsors who also help make the show viable, particularly MKM building supplies Galashiels, who were our main sponsor this year.”

And although the showground has been cleared away for another year, preparations for the 2019 show are already underway.

The Peebles Agricultural Show at Cardrona’s Nether Horsburgh showground will return in August 2019.
