THERE'S more disruption ahead for motorists heading in and out of Galashiels next week.

Four additional overnight maintenance schemes are planned on the A6091 Galafoot Bridge from Monday, August 27, between 9pm and 6am each night.

Road bosses say the closure is needed after more extensive concrete repair works were identified, and need to be completed as part of a current scheme to provide substantial improvements to the condition of the bridge.

The work will be done during the night to reduce disruption, with all traffic following a diversion – eastbound and westbound – while the repairs takes place.

Arrangements have been made for emergency vehicles to be escorted through the work site and they will not be required to use the diversion.

Vehicles travelling eastbound during these night works will be diverted via the A7 to B6360 Abbotsford Road at Abbotsford House, then towards Tweedbank Roundabout to re-join the A6091 eastbound.

Westbound traffic will follow the same diversion in the opposite direction.

A separate diversion for HGVs and high-sided vehicles will operate, for both eastbound and westbound travel, via the A7, A699 and A68.

This scheme has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, and Scottish Borders Council.
