PLANNERS are backing a bid to demolish a prominent town-centre church in Galashiels.
An application by Book Development Ltd to pull down St Aidan's Church in Gala Park is being recommended for approval ahead of next week's planning meeting.
The company claims that is not economically viable to develop either part of or the entire building for housing.
And the only option they are left with is to pull the church and adjoining halls down.
The South United Presbyterian Church, later renamed St Aidan's, was consecrated in August 1880.
Scottish Borders Council's planning committee is due to meet on Monday.
