A CLOVENFORDS couple are donning their kilts for a charity walk in memory of their baby next month.

Lana and Welsh Curran will take part in the event on Sunday, September 16, in Edinburgh to commemorate daughter Ivy, who sadly died at just a day old in August last year.

Lana, who is a former staff nurse at the special baby care unit at Borders General Hospital, wants to complete the walk along with her husband not just to remember Ivy, but to also help raise enough money for the Simpson’s Memory Box Appeal (SiMBA), which helps those who are affected by the loss of a baby.

The bereavement charity is also trying to raise enough funds to revamp the Eildon Room at the BGH, which is used by families to help say goodbye to their loved ones.

Lana said: "We are part of a group fundraising and initially as a group, I thought we'd maybe get £700 to £800, but already, I alone have over a thousand pounds, and collectively we have just over £1,300.

"We're already very grateful for the donations people have given.

"Some people who have also shared with us the times they have used the room at the Eildon Room at the BGH and they are happy to put towards a great cause, or those that wished such services were available many years ago when they lost their babies."

Lana and Welsh won't be alone when they take on the charity walk.

She added: "I am walking with my husband, colleagues and friends. Our team name is Ivy's Adventurers.

"SiMBA are a charity that supplies parents with memory boxes following the loss of a baby. These boxes mean so much to us parents.

"They also provide cuddle cots which enabled us to keep our baby with us for longer, along with the family rooms where we had the space and time to spend together in what was our hardest moments.

"Our daughter was transferred through to Glasgow after delivery as she was sick, but sadly lost her fight. The family room provided in Glasgow was a world away from what is available at the BGH.

"It is in desperate need of an overhaul to be decorated and furnished in a sympathetic manner. The money we raise will go towards this. That is why it so important for us to do this in Ivy's name."
