SELKIRK residents are being urged to step up and take part in a new health walk.

The Scottish Borders Walking for Health project has added the Selkirk Walk It Health Walk to the 28 others already available across the Borders.

The project, jointly run by Scottish Borders Council and NHS Borders, has grown over the years and provides walks in towns and villages across the region including Ayton, Burnmouth, Chirnside, Duns, Eyemouth, Galashiels, Innerleithen, Jedburgh, Kelso and Peebles.

The new walk takes place every Wednesday from 10am, starting from Selkirk Parish Church. It is free, led by a qualified walk leader and designed to be accessible to all, social and safe.

Councillor Tom Weatherston, SBC’s executive member for adult social care said: “I hope that Selkirk residents will take up the opportunity to enjoy this new walk with all the health benefits that getting out into the fresh air can bring. The walks are also an ideal way for people from other communities to explore some new and different scenery and with walks available right across the region.”

Peter Lerpiniere, associate director of nursing for mental health, learning disability and older people, added: “These walks are a great resource for encouraging people to play their part by looking after their own health and wellbeing through physical activity.”
