A sheep farmer from New Zealand who assaulted a man during the Selkirk Common Riding celebrations has been ordered to pay £700 at the town's sheriff court.
Jackson Wallace, who has been living in Shinness near Lairg, pleaded guilty to head butting Gavin Ross in a beer tent at the festival's horse racing on June 15.
Procurator fiscal Graham Fraser said 25-year-old Wallace had been having a "pleasant chat" with the victim as they had played rugby and both had a knowledge of New Zealand when he suddenly head-butted his victim causing his nose to bleed and causing two black eyes.
Wallace - who heads back to New Zealand later this week - was told to pay £200 compensation to his victim and was fined £500.
