RAB Noakes is a force to be reckoned with in the world of music both at home and abroad.

Adding to that force later this month in Selkirk is his friend and acclaimed Americana singer-songwriter Jill Jackson.

Together they create an undeniable evening of enchanting, stripped back and captivating music.

Although a generation apart they have worked and sung together for over 20 years.

String Jam Club promoter Allie Fox told us: "Each of them is an enthusiastic collaborator as well as an accomplished soloist.

"The combination of their voices, their wit and their obvious and infectious love of singing make them a sparkling combination with a great sound.

"They demonstrate the value of how different experiences can make a whole that’s more than the sum of the parts."

Rab is no stranger to String Jam Club having been a welcome guest many times over our 21 years.

Early in 2015 Rab was diagnosed with tonsillar cancer.

The treatment that followed was rigorous, but with his typical resilience, defiance and wit, he carried on writing and new songs began to emerge based on the experience of the treatment.

This process formed a significant role in his recovery and at the earliest opportunity he was out on the road again, playing guitar and singing, touring solo in 2016 with the acclaimed double-CD , I’m Walkin’ Here.

Collaborations with the Grit Orchestra including performances at WOMAD and Edinburgh International Festivals, plus with long-time friend and colleague Barbara Dickson, made 2016 a very busy and fulfilling year for Rab.

In May of 2017 Rab turned 70 and celebrated the 50th anniversary of his first properly-billed, paid gig.

The landmark events of his 70th year continue with release of Rab’s latest album, Welcome to Anniversaryville, and a new tour with Jill, called Finally... Let the show Begin.

Allie added: "We are very excited to be welcoming Jill to String Jam Club for the first time.

"Her new album, Are We There Yet?, is a record that bears the hallmarks of a 25 year musical journey that has taken her from Paisley to Top of The Pops, to playing in every State of America."

Jill first met Rab in the mid-90s when he produced The Brand New Opry for BBC Radio Scotland.

Jill, then a teenager, appeared as a guest on the show and they have been friends and colleagues ever since.

Rab stated: “I love singing and I love singing with other people.

"Jill is one of the best for me as she also loves to sing. We communicate across our generations to make something that’s unique to us."

Rab Noakes and Jill Jackson play the String Jam Club on Saturday, October 13.
