AN Innerleithen care home is in the running to be crowned the best in Britain.

St Ronan's Care Home is recognised locally for the imaginative and professional care of its elderly residents.

From teaming up with local school children for joint events to hosting entertainment and celebrations, the Innerleithen home regularly features in the Peeblesshire News.

And fingers are crossed by both staff and residents that the SB Cares-run home will be making headlines yet again in December at the finals of the Caring UK Awards.

St Ronan;'s has been shortlisted in the Care Home of the Year category.

Manager Cheryl Bremner told us: “Only six homes throughout the UK have reached the final and this is a great achievement for a small Borders home, run by SBCares.

"A small group of staff from the Home will attend a glittering awards ceremony in Leicester where the winners will be announced."

The Caring UK Awards, now in their second year, recognise excellence and achievement within the care sector.

The six shortlisted homes will be visited over the coming weeks.

A spokesman for the awards explained: "This stage involves a visit to each finalist by a member of the awards team who will take a look around the facilities and chat to members and staff before compiling a

comprehensive report, which will then be passed on to an expert judging panel to decide the worthy winners."

The 2018 Care Home of the Year will be announced at The Athena in Leicester on Thursday, December 6.
