BIGGAR is to be given a £4 million boost to futureproof its electricity infrastructure.
SP Energy Networks announced the cash injection this week to make the network more resilient in the face of winter storms.
Over the next three months the company will invest £1.2m refurbishing and rebuilding high voltage overhead power lines and install modern technology.
The project, which will be completed by December, will benefit 978 homes and businesses in the area.
And by the end of 2019 more than £4 million will have been invested in the town when four projects are complete. Some 38 kilometers of overhead circuit has already been replaced this year.
