MELROSE Rotarians have teamed up with the local Fairtrade Group to host a special coffee morning.

Held later this month, the event will serve up Fairtrade tea, coffee and traybakes.

And there will also be a chance to buy Christmas gifts, decorations and a range of books to support the charity Kabuki UK.

Peter Carter from the Rotary Club said: "As a key local charity, we feel it is important to recognise that Melrose is a Fairtrade Town. By making our coffee morning a Fairtrade event, not only are we raising funds for our own local work but we are also supporting farmers and growers in developing countries. Last year we welcomed over 50 people to our coffee morning and provided an excellent opportunity to socialise and take a break from Saturday morning shopping."

The event is also being supported by the local Co-op store.

The Fairtrade Group achieved Fairtrade Town status for Melrose in 2015 and will be seeking to renew that position when members apply to the Fairtrade Foundation later this month.

David Potts from the group added: "We have built a great partnership with the local Rotarians over the past two years and this will benefit us when we are called to show that the work of our group has grown and developed since our last renewal application.”

The coffee morning is being held at the Corn Exchange, on Saturday, October 27 from 10am until 12noon. Entry is free with tea, coffee and cake at £2.
