A 25-year-old man who admitted stealing a laptop and two electrical drills from his former employers has been ordered to pay a total of £1100 at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
Michael Thompson pleaded guilty to the thefts from the SPG premises in Netherdale, Galashiels, between November 1 last year and May 31.
Procurator fiscal Graham Fraser said the value of the items was well into four figures and Thompson sold them to a shop in Edinburgh's Dalry Road to fund his "significant gambling addiction".
Thompson - who has now moved to Dumfries - was fined £500 and ordered to pay £600 in compensation to his former employers.
