ST RONAN’S Silver Band competed on home-turf recently at the Borders Entertainment Contest.

And they performed well – picking up some top awards at Innerleithen Memorial Hall.

Not only did the band’s principal cornet player, 16-year-old Callum Robb, win the Dave Young Trophy & Medal for best solo cornet; but the team of Claire Bell, Elliot Brydon, Cameron McCreadie and Theo Ward-Murray claimed the Jenny Corbett Memorial Cup for best percussion section.

And to top it off, St Ronan’s finished third out of the 13 bands overall.

The adjudicators on the day were Sandy Smith (written remarks) and Bryan Allen (voice-over).

The 18th annual event was organised by the Scottish Borders Brass Band Association and sponsored by Vale of Leithen Social Club.
