A NEW service providing personal support to people with cancer is being rolled out across the Borders region.

’Transforming Care after Treatment’ provides one-to-one support to enable anyone living with the disease to live as independently as possible.

It was piloted in Tweeddale and has been so successful it is now being made available Borders-wide.

The service is being delivered in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, NHS Borders, British Red Cross and the Scottish Borders Council.

The programme, funded by Macmillan, provides tailored advice, information and support to people with cancer to help them regain control over their life.

The service works with the individual, their family and friends to help them focus on what is important to their recovery, build up emotional and physical strength and help re-engage with friends and activities.

TCAT Project Co-ordinator Dawn Dickson said: “The original pilot in Tweeddale has been so successful that people living with cancer across the Scottish Borders are now able to access the service.

“Many people who have finished their cancer treatment don’t know where to turn to. We are able to fill that gap by providing emotional support, advice or practical help.”

TCAT is a free service available throughout the Scottish Borders. To find out more contact the Red Cross on 01896 751888.
