A WINTER wonderland in Peebles has been captured by local photographers for a selection of unique Christmas cards.

And purchasing the cards to send to loved ones will brighten the town's Christmas lights.

Each year, the Christmas Lights Association sets photographers the challenge to capture Peebles during the festive season. The top five pictures have been selected and are now available to buy from local businesses.

Speaking on behalf of the association, David Elder told us: “After a couple of years selling calendars, we decided to go back to traditional Christmas cards. In the past these have done really well for us and all the money goes towards refurbishment and maintaining the lights display in the town.”

The festive fundraising venture was made possible by sponsorship from Holland & Sherry, who praised the Christmas Lights Association for its hard work.

Director David Scott said: “We appreciate all the efforts that the volunteers do to make the town so festive, they do Peebles proud. We are very much looking forward to the big switch on.”

Locals are being invited to watch Peebles light up at the switch-on and Christmas market on Thursday, December 6 at 6.30pm.

The winning entries were: Peebles and Winter Blossom both by Margaret Jamie; Christmas Market by Iain MacKay; Torchlight Procession and St Andrew’s Leckie Church both by Scott Rae.

The cards are available to purchase from Whities, 3 Pennel’s Close High Street; the Tontine Hotel; the High Street Opticians; and the Super Store, 1 Bridgegate.
